Somabhai Jadavbhai Patel (Sam Patel), age 83, of Fords/Edison, NJ passed away on Saturday July 17, 2021 in NJ.

He was born in Sarbhan, Gujarat, India to Jadavbhai Hirabhai Patel and Jamnaben Jadavbhai Patel on July 11, 1938. He moved to the USA in 1977 and since resided in North Bergen, NJ before moving to Fords, NJ in November 2008. Before moving to USA, he worked at Premier Auto Limited in Mumbai, India. In North Bergen, he owned and ran a small convenient store, S&B Candy Store, now known as Kennedy News, located at 84th Street and Kennedy Blvd. This is where most of the town knew him as Sam and his elder brother, late Desaibhai Patel. They both worked at this store and put all eight of their kids through school before retiring.

During his retirement, he spent most of the time gardening and growing vegetables in his backyard in Fords, NJ. In the other times, he would watch his favorite TVs show The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and bhajans from Morari Bapu.

He is survived by his wife, three kids and seven grandkids:

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 9:30am at Franklin Memorial Park: 1800 NJ-27, North Brunswick Township, NJ 08902

We pray that (Param krupadu parmatma temna atma ne shanti arpe ej prarthana), and we pray that Shree Krishna Bhagwan to give the necessary strength to our family with the loss. Besnu will be held on Saturday 7/24 2pm-5pm at his home in Fords, NJ.

In loving memory of Somabhai Patel, we will be having the ceremonial Termu prayer puja (13th day puja, along with 11th, 12th puja) on Saturday July 31, 2021 starting at 9am at his home in Fords, NJ. Please join us in remembering and honoring his life with a luncheon afterwards.
